NECROPHONIE – s/t CD [Sottomondo Edizioni] 14,50

(Necrophonie is the name used by the noise duet formed by Devis G. (Teatro Satanico, Lunus, DeV) & M. Nothing (aka M. Corbelli / Atrax Morgue). They were yet partner-in-noise ten years ago, indeed a very small portion of this music had been four-handed composed, performed and tape released on 1996 and 1997 by Slaughter Productions. The duo retrieve parts of mid 90s live electronics sessions, adding new recordings, and editing and 're-animating' that old tape recorded matter, here-hence 'Necrophonie' name: for the act of giving new electronic life to 'dead audio recordings'. But the necrophiliac suggestion is just a fleeting feeling, since these compositions ground on serious thoughts about electronic noise: " The noise is not the negation of the grammar forms, rather than an otherwise unspeakable assertion of the language. Indeed only the noise unveils the mere semantics value of the musical game. (Italian Avant-Noise legend M.B. and Land Use collaborate on dramatic, subterranean wall-of-noise constructions and swirling textural storms, dense and complex arrangements, shifting and shimmering tones barely under control, streaming toward some distant and indefineable precipice. ("Frammenti, i.e. fragments, is the new direction in Maurizio Bianchi's music. An acoustic-bionic composition for electromagnetic waves and cyclic sonorities. Left now are all the indeterminate atmospheres gently fluctuating, in order to reach a more formal and structured work. Still dealing with the fragments of our memories made of joy and tribulations, sensations and awareness, aspirations and disappointments, with the carnal and the spiritual assistance. M.B. - ANTARCTICT MOSAIC CDR [EES'T] 12

("Following the path opened by Frammenti, this new work represents the radicalization of the fragmentary approach in Maurizio Bianchi's music.

A musical composition resulting from the combination of various elements: Hetzian-waves, classical and electronic music. MB eagerly explores the immaculate spaces of the so-called 'frozen continent', the only one not contaminated by the human presence. The hostile surroundings and the prohibitive temperatures made the frozen paradise so stimulating and pure. Antarctica was an immense park frozen after the post-Flood events when unexpectedly and suddenly the temperatures felt of many centigrade degrees. This process is well emphasized in the 'Antartic' track. On the other hand, in 'Mosaic' the listener mind is projected into the future when, after the decontamination process of human presence on Earth, the frozen continent will become again a paradise. Again a strictly formal and structured work, two long and exhausting sound-collages made of little fragments, even more radical than his approach when MB was active under the name of Sacher-pelz. ("The terminal concept of Cycles is matured after the sharp Fragments and the Glacial Mosaics of MB's recent artistic reproduction, at the end of a triennial project, aiming to exacerbate the routine of prefab sound, the common and forgone sound created to be exclusively consumed by an amorphous and servile mass, sunken in a sullen entertainment. The approach here is totally new and the fragment is isolated and constantly repeated in order to build an aural minimal architecture. As MB states: 'Our whole existence is subordinated to intense and mathematical cycles, from the biological to the technological one, from the solar to the lunar one, from the historical to the legendary one. The cyclicity of the sonorous meanders of Cycles is, probably, the unique example of cyclic music. Particular and interatomic sonorous repercussions infinitely and distinctly repeating themselves, captured in a spectroscopy of atavic and coriaceous notes'. And in the classic mood of the early 80s style, MB continues: 'The establishment will disagree. Such an experiment will be considered tedious and banal. (Desiderii Marginis album ’Strife’ is, as the name implies, a sort of reflection over the rather pityful human desire to engage in all kinds of conflict. But often strife takes the form of mere pointless destruction for no purpose. That particular lack of meaning is what this album is all about. ’War is a continuation of politics’ von Clausewitz wrote in the 1830’s. But if there’s no political visions to realize, no higher goal to pursue, no new beginning, no rebirth, then what? Guns go silent only to discover that nothing has really been accomplished. (MZ.412 is one of the household names on CMI, so it was only a matter of time before the side project Folkstorm would end up there as well, after some excursion to the Old Europa Cafe and Cold Spring labels. Folkstorm allegedly appeared as a reaction to the more refined studio approach of MZ.412, thus applying a shift of the compositional modus operandi, a return to the basics. Folkstorm represents a loving nod to the industrial old school: buzzing synth noise, crude drum machine rhythms, and dubious speech samples. "For the Love Of Hate" puts even more emphasis on the vocals than the previous albums, although Kremator Nordvargr's voice is rendered unintelligble by all the effects. MEGAPTERA - Beyond the Massive Darkness 2CD [cold meat] 20

(Since 10 year now Megaptera has spread their plague of darkness, diseases and death. Starting with a tape on the CMI sub-label Sound Source who made way for several CDs, vinyls and numerous appearances on compilation albums. Now, ten years later, ending were they once started; on CMI. This new and 2000 copies limited double CD is nothing new, but a nostalgic retrospect of an era. Featuring the first LP, released on the obscure Vinyl Attack in 200 copies and their first CD released on the Italian label Kronotop + the necessary bonus tracks. The combined efforts of three individuals resulted in a dark, menacing, and unyielding concoction that was as frightful as the movies that were the primary source of inspiration since day one. Dialogues, monologues, and even entire scenes from various videos, have been used in their songs, sometimes illustrating the music, often illustrating the movie itself. As the years passed, so did the Magnus Pettersson and Mikael Svensson, which left Peter Nyström to hoist the black flag by himself, though often assisted by other musicians such as The Protagonist. Despite the changes in the band, Megaptera have always remained true to their vision: to blend dark atmospheric sounds with machinelike rhythms, thereby creating a soundtrack to your worst nightmares. No political opinions were expressed by the band, nor were any crypto-philosophical ideas inherent in the music. Instead Megaptera worked like a mirror - a reflection of an age where insanity, violence, war, deceit, death, and disease are brought to our very own livingrooms through the artificial eye of the TV screen.)

MOLJEBKA PVLSE - Sadalmelik CD [cold meat] 12

(Mathias Josefson has been musically active since the beginning of the nineties under different names. In 1999 Moljebka Pvlse was put to life, much due to the contribution on the CMI compilation "Esthetiks Of Cruelty". The first CD, "Koan", on which loops and guitar manipulations were utilized came in 2000. During the autumn the same year he made an extensive US tour with Mikael Stavöstrand and Brent Gutzeit. The music on "Sadalmelik" is made out of both acoustic and electronic equipment and sometimes computer-generated sounds. Imagine someone delicately rolling out a dough comprising both the subtler moments of Maëror Tri and the hypnotic ambience of mid-eighties Lustmord, incorporating low frequency factory sounds and you might come close to this monotonous drone-party. Raison d'être - Reflections from the time of opening CD [cold meat] 12

(Reflections From the Time of Opening’ contains a selected collection of the very earliest material by raison d’être, now finally available on Cold Meat Industry. The album shows the first phases in the development of raison d’être and should rather be seen as a documentation album of that time more than a conceptual album. ‘Reflections From the Time of Opening’ sounds quite different from later and established raison d’être sound, but that makes it not less enjoyable. Also included on the disc are the compilation tracks from ‘The Absolute Supper’ (Cold Meat Industry) and Funeral Songs’ (Crowd Control Activities) and re-mixes of the two remaining tracks from the first raison d’être CD ‘Prospectus I’ (track re-mixes of ‘Prospectus I’ can also be found on Collective Archives’ and ‘Lost Fragments’).

AESTHETIC MEAT FRONT - Embalmer Tapes (dissected) CDR [OEC] 12

(In autumn 2000 a mortician, whose identity we shall not unveil, was given a mini tape-recorder to document an embalming session of his/her choice. Only 2 requests were made of the embalmer : 1) to record everything from open ‘the freezer’ till closing the lid 2) to forget about the tape. The result was 68 minutes of raw sound. Those 68 minutes were the sole sound source for Embalmer Tapes, Louis Fleischauer together with R|A|A|N dissected, sliced and reconstructed this recording into an eerie soundscape of post-mortem ambience. Embalmer Tapes is a sonique exploration of cold flesh. By only using sounds from the original embalming tape, AMF captured the unsettling atmosphere of the pre-room.
